'Shasta' temporary trail closure

Please respect the temporary trail closure of Shasta for the month of October and part of November. See below for the notice from the Lil'wat Forestry Ventures. Thanks!

Hello Pemberton Off Road Cycling Association,

On behalf of Lil'wat Forestry Ventures I am writing to notify your group of a short term closure that is planned for the mountain bike trail “Shasta” on the south side of Rutherford Creek. A map of the planned cutblock / tail location is attached for reference. Shasta is not a recognized trail as it is not authorized under Section 57 the Forest and Range Practices Act. However, it is recognized that the trail receives public use and is volunteer maintained and thus deserves some level of recognition during forest harvesting activities.

Lil'wat Forestry Ventures will be harvesting a small cutblock (RUT26) which will overlap with approximately 200m of the upper portion of the trail. Due to safety concerns the trail will be closed to public access during harvesting operations (scheduled for October 2017). During harvesting operations, the trail will have closure signs hung at both the entrance and exit to the trail (by Lil’wat Forestry Ventures) and the branch road leading to the trailhead will have access restrictions.

Although the planned harvest area will overlap with the trail, best efforts during harvesting will be made to minimize disturbance to the trail running surface and all harvesting debris will be removed from the running surface following harvest completion. A portion of the trees immediately adjacent to the trail will be retained to reduce the impact on the nature of the trail.

Harvesting operations will commence in the first week of October 2017 and harvest completion is expected by Nov 15.

Logging trucks and harvesting crew traffic can be expected to be encountered on the Rutherford South FSR during this time period and recreation traffic utilizing adjacent road systems should travel with caution and expect industrial vehicles at any time.

It would be appreciated if your organization could post the trail and planned road access limitations on your website so that trail users are informed of the location and timing of these activities.

Please let me know if there are any questions regarding this schedule.

(on behalf of Lil’wat Forestry Ventures)
